#16 Rilakkuma Bento

I again post the same theme bento for today. This time I use home-made mashed potato. In order to resemble Rilakkuma character then I put it into bear shaped cup & decorate the face expression using chocolate pen & carrot on it. The other companion things are: lettuce, cocktail wieners, french bread topping with Rilakkuma-shaped cheese, fresh prune and carrot. There is also mushroom gravy inside the small sauce cup.

Here I also post the mashed potato's recipe:

Ingredients
• 9 medium potatoes (aprrox: 3 pounds)
• 4 tsp butter
• 1/4 tsp salt or to taste
• 1/3 cup fat-free milk

Directions
1. Wash, peel, and quarter potatoes. Cook, covered, in a large saucepan in a small amount of boiling water for 20 to 25 minutes or until tender.
2. Drain potatoes and mash with a potato masher or with an electric mixer on low speed. Add butter and salt. Heat the 1/3 cup fat-free milk. Gradually beat enough of the hot milk into the potatoes to make them light and fluffy.

I used Mc Cormic Mushroom Sauce for the gravy.

Rilakkuma Cookies Part (2)

This is my 2nd Rilakkuma cookies. I got the recipe from Lia, the owner of mybentolicious. She is very generous to share the recipe. She has two great blogs. You may have a look.

It's my careless that I forgot to add in egg inside the mixture, so the outcome was not nice-looking. Please forgive me as I am newbie in baking. I still post it here as for my memorable baking experiment. I hope I will have an improvement in the future.

Watercress Soup

I love eating watercress since I was a kid.  Any cooking cooking method of this vegetable would be accepted by me. This vegetable can be sautéd with adding garlic & light soy sauce or boiled with ribs and red-dates as a soup. Both results turn very delicious.

Furthermore, watercress contains significant amounts of iron, calcium and folic acid. It’s also rich in vitamins A and C.

#12 Rilakkuma & Kiiroitori Bread

Today's posting is very simple. I don't need much time to prepare this bento snack. I use sliced bread and form the bread using Rilakkuma & Kiiroitori cookies cutters. As Kiiroitori character is yellow colour then I used Carrot Bread however I didn't have any chocolate/ brown colour bread so I used plain bread instead. So I don't know whether I should name it Rilakkuma or Korilakkuma, hahaha.. is it confusing, isn't it? I also put sliced cheese in between the bread. Others are fruit salad & few pieces of strawberries.

Here is the outcome:

#11 - Little Hello Kitty

My bento theme’s for today is Hello Kitty, my everlasting cartoon favourite since I was a child. I used white carrot/daikon for Hello Kitty face. You may wonder why the white carrot turned into pink color. Yes, food colouring is used to color the daikon. Nori & carrot are used for decoration. The box consists of rice, barbeque chicken, strawberry, lettuce and home-made cupcake topping with hello kitty figures.

Rilakkuma Pancake

It’s my first time to try out Rilakkuma pan. I used Pillsbury’s pancake-mix with buttermilk. It’s very simple and hassle-free as you just add milk into the batter & pan it. Unfortunately, my Rilakkuma pancake doesn’t turn well as expected. As you can see it’s over-burnt, the pancake looks awful. The Rilakkuma looks fierce rather than the original one which supposed to be very cute. Please forgive me this time & I do hope I can have better result in the future.

Bakmoy (Indonesian shredded chicken soup)

This is an Indonesian cuisine, especially we can easily find it in East Java area. The soup base is from chicken broth while the contents are fried minced shrimp, shredded chicken, mini cut fried tofu. Serve hot & sprinkle celery on top of the soup. To make taste even better is to add shrimp paste mixed with grinded chilli. It’s normally served with prawn cracker & warm rice.

#10 Rilakkuma & Kiroitorii Bento

I made double-layered sandwich stuffed with tuna spread and lettuce. It's very simple and just few minutes to get it ready. To make it nice-looking, here I use Rilakkuma & Kiiroitori stencils, topping up the bread with crabstick & cheese as well. half-cut orange & strawberry as the dessert. It's my first time using the stencil. I took  I took a longer time to outline it rather than rather spreading tuna over the sliced bread, LOL!

Cabbage Roll

I tried to make this simple yet healthy dish. I can say this is good for us as it’s using steaming process and it’s fat-free too.

I used minimal ingredient such as cabbage, minced meat, spring onion, few drops of sesame oils, salt and pepper. You can add garlic powder if preferred. If you like spicy then chilli sauce is a good companion.

#09 - Three Innocent Faces

If you still remember my previous bento post (two faces bento). Now, I am posting three innocent faces. Seems I have lack of idea to give a title hehehe...

Here, I still need to have more practice to mold rice nicely. Playing with some faces expression to make the rice ball looks more attractive & even adorable..it's fun though.

The box consists of sliced ham, small wiener, lady finger, cherry tomatoes and crab stick. While nori, cheese, crabstick are used as the decoration so that the bento looks good.

#08 - Pan Pita Sandwiches

This sandwiches use carrot bread & plain sliced bread, so as to make two different tones & pretty looks as well. Not to mention the bread itself, I stuffed the breads with two different filling i.e: spicy chicken floss and ham-cheese. Strawberries & sweets as another companion.

Pan Pita square bread cutter is used here to shape & seal the bread edge perfectly. The filling would not mess up anymore, all the worry is gone.

"POOH" Strawberry Yoghurt Cakes

This recipe was adopted from Little Corner of Mine blog. I used Pooh's silicone mold for these cakes. However, outcome doesn't turn great. The colour was too pale & the pooh figure is not well-shaped. It looks like a piggy rather than Winnie the Pooh figure, doesnt it? If there is a chance, I will try it again. hopefully, I can have better result then.

Here is the recipe

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cup all purpose flour

#06 - Rilakkuma Noodles

I like eating noodles no matter what noodles they are: yellow noodle (油麵) , flat noodle (麵薄), ramen (拉麵), fine vermicelli/misua (麵線), udon noodle (粗麵), rice fettuccine/kway teow (粿条), rice pappardelle / sha ho fun(沙河粉), rice vermicelli / beehon (米粉) and many more.

Here is I used instant-noodle for my bento, topping with sliced-cheese and cut onto rilakkuma & its friend shaped as decoration. This bento used indomie mie goreng special. Perhaps, anyone who lives in SEA region well-known with this brand already.. yeah it’s Indomie brand, made in Indonesia & if I am not mistaken the factory is one of the biggest in South East Asia Region.

Checkered Apple

Have learnt how to make checkered-apple cutting from Japanese Bento Book. I need to be extra careful in order to get correct checker cutting or otherwise it turns disarray. First, you need to soak the apple onto salt water for few minutes before cutting. Hope you enjoy it!

#05 - Mini heart-shaped Sandwiches

I bought sliced plain bread & sliced carrot bread from Lavender Cake Shop. I intend to make a bite size of heart-shaped sandwiches using the sandwich mold. As you can guess, that it’s a very fast job, it takes only a few minutes time. You can stuff the sandwich with anything you like such as fruity jam, floss, ham, egg-mayo, tuna spread, etc.

This time, I make two tone of mini sandwiches filled up with two different flavours. I use a bite size chicken ham for the white bread & loaded the yellow bread with blueberry jam.

sauted bittergourd + carrot

This is a simple dish to cook once we have a limited time. The required ingredients are: bitter gourd, pork/chicken meat, carrot, prawn, red/green capsicum. Meanwhile for the spices are: salt, pepper a few drops of sesame oils, soy sauce & a little bit of sugar.

Here I used red capcisum so as to add more colour to the dish. To make the dish more good-looking I cut the carrot using Disney cutter to form mickey mouse. This is cute, isn’t it?

Rilakkuma Cookies

Greeting to everyone…

This time I bake Rilakkuma Cookies, As you can see, there are another cartoon characters in between the Rilakkuma cookies..yeaaa…they’re tomica & mini mickey ouse, hahahaha…This baking experiment is quite fun especially to see these cute characters are well baked. It’s yummy too!

#04 - Girls carry a present

I made another bento. I name it girls with a present. As usual, my bento work is still just so so not too mention beautiful yet, hahaha…

This time I fill the box with rice, stir-fry mixed flower shape carrot, bitter-gourd & minced meat; chicken ham; cocktail sausage & tomato While lettuce, nori, crab-stick & sliced cheese as decoration. Adding the curvy food picks to make more good-looking.

Here is the look:

Cute CupCakes

Finally, I manage to make these cute cupcakes after planning it for quite sometimes. At first, I don’t have so much courage as it is my first time to do it. I searched website & saw videos about how to deal with fondants, colouring the fondant & paste the fondant onto cupcakes or other layered of fondants.

At last, I try to use fondant as a topping for cupcake. I form the characters using the cookies cutters. I am still not brave enough to try out 3D figure/figurine. Perhaps next time, when I have more experiences and being more confident too!

For the cupcake itself,  it’s a strawberry-yogurt cupcake. I poured too little mixture into the cupcake paper so the result doesn’t turn nice shape. However, the smell is so fragrance & it’s tasty too.

White, Pink & Dark Chocolate

Have seen many cute chocolate praline in the web. Finally, I decided to try it myself.
I use dark & white cooking chocolate. I melt the white chocolate first then pour into chocolate mold to have a desired shape.

2nd course is to have white chocolate melting & pour into mold to form. While for 3rd course I use white chocolate & add a drop of red food colouring.  So, I obtain 3 different colours & flavours as well. You can also add Jamaica rum to the melted chocolate as it taste & smell more fragrance. Of course, it would be more delicious…yummy..yummy..

Here is the look:

"Hello Kitty" Fuwa Fuwa Cake

Today's post is about Hello Kitty & Hello Kitty again. Hope all of you do not get bored with this theme I have chosen.
I bought the Kitty Mold & there was a recipe booklet inside. Unfortunately, the recipe was written in Japanese. Alamak!! I couldn’t understand what the contents are…it’s too bad as actually there are some recipe to try out. As you can guess that the recipe booklet is kept on the drawer then.
Few months later, I found an online store who sell Japanese stuffs. I bought some items from her. I told her that I got experience buying Japanese stuff & not able to experiment with the recipe because of the language. What coincidence she understands Japanese & what makes me happy the most is she is willing to help me with the translation.
Hoooray..hooray…hooray…feel like jumping. I am so glad to hear it.  I can test the recipe afterward…I am so thankful for her kindness. Thanks a million!!

Raisin & Choco Muffins

I tried to bake muffins. I used ready-mix muffin bought from supermarket. It’s very easy & make the process quicker as I can skip half of the preliminary course such as adding the ingredient one by one flour, egg, sugar, etc…

Yeah, I believe that it’s suitable to anyone who has a limited time to do cooking or zzzzztttt it’s also applicable to the lazy girl.. perhaps I am.

I put in raisin & rice chocolate to the mixture. Using the pre-heat oven at 180deg C & bake it for 20-25 minutes.

#03 - Boys Bento

Hello Everyone…

This is my bento #03. I still have no improvement in bento-making. I could say that it is still untidy and the arrangement of food is still far from good. Yeah, I  admit about it & hopefully, I would be able to make a better one in the future. I wish to make more charaben bento work as well.

I used hand to mold the rice and décor it with nori/seaweed & crab stick. The other content inside the box are cocktail wiener, crab stick, seafood tofu sandwich, lettuce & persimmon.

Here is the bento:

Sauted Oyster Mushroom

I prepared this dish for our lunch accompanying with old cucumber + bah kut soup. To make the soup more fragrance thus I add it with a small slices of dried squid (here they called it dried sotong).

For the sauted-oyster mushroom is very easy to make & simple ingredient to add on such as garlic, onion, green capsicum & red chilli. Spring onion as sprinkle

Steamed Flower Crab

Trust that many of you like to eat Crab. Hmmm, you do not need to apply with a lot of spices to get delicious home-cooked crab. You will be spoiled with many types of cooking style i.e: steam, stir-fry or bake the crab too. Somehow, you can just add simple spice into it such as garlic, butter or black pepper will do.

It would taste great as the meat is so juicy & tender.  However, if you dare to take spicy food then it's tastier to add chilli onto it , yeaaaa…yeaaaa… it’s called chilli crab style. Yummy..yummy....an alternative way is to try curry cooking style.

What cooking style do you like the most then?? Feel free to try it, hohohoho..

Frankly speaking, the black shell crab is more delicious.
Here is my steamed flower Crab and it's not bad either:

Triangle-Shaped Garlic Bread

Today, I plan to make garlic bread for breakfast. I use Gardenia Bread &  Tru Blue Garlic Butter Bread. It’s perfect combination. What’s more…it’s simple job as I just need to apply the spread on to the slice bread & toast it. This takes only few minutes and yeah…it’s done. An aromatic Garlic Bread is ready to serve. I put some grapes for the companion and of course a cup of hot tea/coffee to follow.

Disney Cookies

It was my first baking experience assisted by my youngest sister & my SIL who has more experience in baking compared to me. Yeeaaaaa….It’s an enjoyable moment to have them around. I am now staying far away from them & I really miss them so much.

Since I have bought some of Disney Characters cookies cutters then we decided to use the cutters to form the dough & bake it. Telling you that we’re good team, cooperating to form dough,  grease the baking tray, apply the formed dough with the egg yolk , bake it &  remove from oven too.

It took longer time to use these cute cutters compared to general cutters. It’s not as easy as shown on the picture as some of the outcome turned ugly such as the ears cut off or the faces not well formed.

However, you do not need to worry about it. It’s quite fun & what we need to do is to have more practices so that you can get the best outcome. There is a quote saying that Practice makes perfect.

Finally, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet & Hello Kitty cookies are ready to consume.
